Missionaries traveled to Africa because they believed that converting people to Christianity can end the slave trade. This was around the 1900s though

Before this, European nations during the Silk Road trade also traded with Asia. The trade brought missionaries to Asia. The missionaries goal at the time was to convert more people to Christianity in order to please God
