Is the following grammatically correct:

According to Comte de Gobineau, the spreader of the idea of the Indo-European “Aryan race,” the Nordic or Germans were thought to be the purest “Aryans.”

Is the comma in "Aryan race" supposed to be before or after the quotation marks?

The comma is after the quotation marks.

The period is at the end as well.
