You would know by how the problem is written for example if a equation is written like this (2+3)5 you add 2+3 first then multiply by 5 to get 25 therefore you add first

use the phrase pemdas
it shows the order you solve. parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and then subtraction. ask me if you need any other help!
