A campaign for equal rights for African Americans, which was launched during World War II.

  • V stands for Victory. The first victory for which America was fighting in World War II was for victory over tyranny and aggression. The African American community in the US added a second V for victory for their own rights within their own country. The campaign first appeared in the African-American newspaper, Pittsburgh Courier, in February, 1942.
