How do oral contraceptive,specifically birth control pills, prevent pregnancy?

Birth control pills prevent pregnancy  mainly by stopping ovulation. If no egg is released, there is nothing to be fertilized by sperm, and the woman cannot get pregnant. They may prevent or delay  ovulation. Hope this answers the question. Have a nice day.
