Melting glaciers may affect ocean currents. It was found that freshwater entering the ocean from melting ice sheets can weaken the climate controlling part of the large scale ocean circulation with frantic climate change as a consequence

When a glacier melts, the ocean level rises therefore causing flooding and creating alien environments for those species that either live near the glaciers or on them.
