The sum of two numbers, a and b, is 12. the first number, a, is 8 more than the second number.

a = 10 and b = 2
You can look at it as b + (b+ 8) = 12 and then when you solve add 8 to your answer which should be 2 and you get 10. Therefore your numbers are 10 and 2.
The reason a = 10 is because the answer states that a is 8 more than the second number you can check your answer for a by subtracting 8 from 10 and you get 2. 10 + 2 also = 12 therefore you know that these are the right numbers.

Hi , the two numbers are 2 and 10 , 10 is 8 more than 2 and 10 +2=12.
