Why is this impossible?

Emily challenges her friend David to catch a $1 bill. she holds the bill vertically with the center of the bill between but not touching David's index finger and thumb. Without warning, Emily releases the bill. David catches the bill without moving his hand downward. David's reaction time is equal tot he average human reaction time

Because the average (and typical) human reaction time is longer than the time that the bill will take to pass the reach of the hand.
