When it ionizes, sodium (Na) becomes Na+.

Does sodium lose or gain an electron during ionization ?
Which has a bigger atomic radius: Na or Na+?
Can some one please help me and explain why.
I am like so confused right now.

When Sodium ionize to form an ion, sodium loses one electron to form Na+

Na will have a larger atomic radius than Na+ as there are lesser electrons than protons in Na+ as compared to Na. Hence, Na has a bigger atomic radius.
