your larger number is 11 and your smaller one is 9. You solve this by first dividing 20 in half. Then you make one larger than the other by subtracting 1 from one 10 and adding adding that subtracted 1 to the other 10. Then you multiply 11 by 4 (11×4) and get 44 then multiply 9 by 5 (9×5) and get 45. Then subtract 44 from 45 (45-44) and the difference is 1.

n → smaller

20 - n → larger

4 (20 - n) = 5n - 1

80 - 4n = 5n - 1

81 = 9n

n = 9

20 - n = 11

Therefore, the numbers are 9 and 11.
