The mayflower compact was the first contact signed by the pilgrims who were headed for Plymouth Rock. It was written while on the mayflower and signed by 120 men.

The significance behind it is that it was the first form of a democracy based government contract that would go into building the colonies. It was the laws and guidelines for the new land.
