To find out how old Isabella is, you divide Joseph's age. As you can see, it says that Joseph is 3 times Isabella's age. Isabella is 9. This means that Joseph is 27 years old.

Equation: 36 ÷ 1.33 = 27
A variable would be I, also known as Joseph's age(27)
Equation with variable: 36 ÷ 1.33 = I(Joseph's age)
