Climatic conditions play an important role in the decomposition of rock in the soil, a process known as weathering. Rocks of the same material found in areas with moist and hot climates weathering faster than the same or similar in colder and dry conditions. Also, weathering is influenced by the structure of the material from which the rocks are made. The marble calcite, from which the marble is made, is softer than granite, so it is less resistant to chemical and natural weathering than granite. So, marble would weather faster then granite in an area with a hot and humid climate.
