I believe the answer is: C)pass through a series of psychosexual stages.

According to Freud, development in personality among children is caused by the tendency to impress other people from different sexes.

For boys for example, this tendency is focused by developing the behaviour that impress their mother and as they grow up this tendency is focused by developing behaviours that impress other girls in their social group.
