With the Spanish presence in Florida, slavery seemed to threaten the military security of the colony. Spain offered any runaway slaves the opportunity for freedom in exchange for military service. Therefore, any slaves brought to Georgia could be used by the Spanish in their efforts to destroy the Georgian colony.
