Without enzymes the cell metabolism would be so slow that it would be almost impossible for an organism to function- Enzymes speed up chemical processes by binding the reactants to specific places on the protein called active spots which brings the reactants closer and causes a conformational change in the reactants, resulting in a fast catalyzed reaction.
