-9x - 3 > 51

-9x > 51 + 3 -3 crosses over and changes to + 3

-9x > 54 Divide both sides by -9 and the inequality sign changes.

x < -54/9

x < -6

-9x> 54
Divide -9 on both sides so that the only thing remaining on the left side is the variable x. *Note: When you divide both sides by a negative number, flip the greater than/less than sign to it's opposite side.
