Which pronoun correctly completes the sentence:

Everybody in the room was hoping to have (his/their) lottery numbers called.

"Their" is the correct answer. You see, it says Everybody(male or female) so if you said "his", you would be referring to one male person. Their means (anyone's, everyone's and it is referring to ownership) Their car, their house, etc.  (:
