Arguments and narratives are two genres of essays you may be expected to compose in a writing class. An argumentative essay addresses a specific position of an issue with the intention of persuading readers. A narrative's essay goal is to tell readers about a story, often an experience that resulted in a powerful life change. Because of these differences, examples of their paragraphs would look very different. Argumentative and narrative essays differ according to elements such as structure, length and use of language.

A narrative has a different purpose and structure than an argument. Arguments prove a claim; .Narratives recount detailed events that are real or imagined.
