I think that the mood is being Secretive, and ambition, because at first, Mary has to be secretive about the garden, so she doesn't get in trouble. I also think it's ambition, because Mary probably knows she's going to get caught sooner or later, but she still goes in it everyday, because she wants to help it grow, and become what it once was.
