Mutagens are the physcial or chemical factors that increase the rate of mutation. These are the physical or chemical agents that alter the genetic material, say DNA in any organism. They can also effect the DNA replication and sometimes, even cause the death of a cell.

A mutagen is a physical or synthetic operator that progressions the hereditary material, normally DNA, of a creature and along these lines expands the recurrence of transformations over the regular foundation level. Mutagens can be physical or chemical that should increase the mutation rate.
