Why do you think people believe some theories even if they are not supported by credible evidence

ok this could be for a number of reason like they think the evidence is credible or they were told the full truth and are just goulible but the reason some people believe in unproven or uncredible evidence to support a theory is because they have some irrational fear that would be explain is what i think.
