Let's test two even exponent cases

Lets take negative two and raise it to by two as an exponent.

-2 * -2 = 4 (a positive number)

Now lets take negative two and raise it to by four as an exponent.

-2*-2*-2*-2 = 16 (a positive number)

Even though this is not a formal mathematical proof, it at least shows that the rule seems to hold for these two cases and other even exponents actually.
