Example 1: 2(5+8)=26

You multiply the 5 which =10

Then multiply the 8, which =16

Since they are both positive, add the two numbers to get 26.

Example 2: 6(x -5)= -24

The variable x is equivalent to 1x so it is like you are multiplying by 1, but with an x, meaning you should get 6x. Then multiply 6 and 5. BUT WAIT... Since it is subtracting you have to do something with the sign, visualize the x-5 as x plus negative 5. And you should get -30. After solving 6 -30, you should end up with -24.
