The digestive system contains a variety of parts that perform specific functions within the body. The small and large intestines have some similarities and some differences. Which function is only performed in the small intestine?

Small intestine and large intestine both helps in the digestion process. Both of them has some similarities and some dis similarities.

The digestion and absorption of food takes place in the stomach, small intestine and large intestine.

The only function that is performed in the small intestine and not in large intestine is absorption of food particles.

The absorption of water, minerals and other nutrients takes place in the large intestine but the absorption of 90% of food particles occurs in the small intestine.

Small and large intestines have similarities in their functions. But the function that is only performed in the small intestine is absorption of minerals. Both water and vitamin absorption happens in the large intestine along with salts. The creation of chyme happens in the stomach.
