Explanation:

  • A dilation is a transformation that changes the size of the figure in a particular way by using a scale factor . It preserves angle but not the side length of the figure. It creates similar image It may create congruent images if scalar factor = 1.

On the other side an isometry is transformation which creates congruent images as it preserves side length and angles of the figure.

Therefore, "A dilation is isometry" is false statement.

The statement given is false. Actually, a unitary dilation is an isometry. In general, this statement does not hold. Isometry is the transformation of an object that preserves the shape and size of the object. Only the oriesntaiton is changed. Since size is preserved, then dilation is not an isometry..
