Place the following in order of increasing acid strength.

HBrO2 HBrO3 HBrO HBrO4

A) HBrO2 < HBrO4 < HBrO < HBrO3
B) HBrO < HBrO2 < HBrO3 < HBrO4
C) HBrO2 < HBrO3 < HBrO4 < HBrO
D) HBrO4 < HBrO2 < HBrO3 < HBrO
E) HBrO < HBrO4 < HBrO3 < HBrO2

Answer: Option (B) is the correct answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

As oxygen atom is highly electronegative than hydrogen atom. So, when there will be presence of more number of oxygen atoms in a compound then it means that compound can easily lose a hydrogen ion.

This is because more oxygen atoms will have more electron pull of shared electrons. Thus, hydrogen atom can be removed easily when dissolved in an aqueous solution.

Thus, we can conclude that order of increasing acid strength is as follows.

HBrO < HBrO_(2) < HBrO_(3) < HBrO_(4)

I think the correct order according to increasing acid strength would be the one in option B. The order is:
HBrO < HBrO2 < HBrO3 < HBrO4

The more oxygen atoms means the easier the hydronium ions is removed in aqueous solution since the oxygen has a high electronegativity.
