The Americans react to events in Europe and Asia in the early years of WW2 by being alarmed and staying out of the war. Although United States is a powerful country, its power entails to the responsibility to its constituents, as well. As much as possible, America wanted to stay out of war to preserve its resources and avoid being caught in conflicts

Although many Americans were a bit alarmed and somewhat scared, they generally wanted to avoid entering the war and wanted to stay isolated from the rest of the world.
