The Second Great Awakening resulted in social reforms in the mid nineteenth century.

The Second Great Awakening was a Protestant religious revival which took place at the beginning of the 19th century in the United States. The movement initiated around 1790, gained momentum by 1800 and, after 1820, membership grew rapidly among Baptist and Methodist congregations whose preachers led the movement.
