Answer:

There are three main states of matter: Solid, Liquid and gas. Phase transition occurs from one state of matter to another when energy is supplied or withdrawn.

Solid converts to liquid and liquid converts to gas when energy is supplied to the molecules. The energy increases the speed of the molecules, the density reduces and phase transition occurs.

On the other hand, when energy is withdrawn from the molecules, gas turns to liquid and liquid turns to solid.
