President Lincoln gave the speech Gettysburg Address at the dedication ceremony at the National Cemetery of Gettysburg about the impact of the Civil War. However, he was not the primary speaker at the ceremony and the speech did not become famous until 11 years after he had passed away. Lincoln was only asked to provide some closing remarks. It became famous for its emphasis on freedom, equality and unity and how the Civil War impacted the country.
