The Supreme Court declared that state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white (segregation in public schools) was unconstitutional.

This decision lead to the de- segregation of public schools (white and black/ different races could attend together). This positive outcome was also important because it acted as a catalyst for the modern civil rights movement- which inspired education reform everywhere in the USA, also encouraging people to challenge segregation in other areas of society.
