How can you tell an equation is linear? Example: 22x-14y=65

Hello,

The degree of a function highest exponent of the dependent variable, then we first isolate "y":


22x-14y=65 \\ 22x-65=14y \\ y= (22)/(14)x- (65)/(14) \\ \\ y= (11)/(7)x- (65)/(14)

In this case the highest exponent is 1. Functions whose highest exponent is 1, are called LINEAR FUNCTIONS OR LINEAR AQUATIONS
