(y + 5)(y + 7)
use FOIL
F -- multiply first terms in each set....y * y = y^2
O -- multiply outside terms in each set...y * 7 = 7y
I -- multiply inside terms in each set...5 * y = 5y
L -- multiply last terms in each set...5 * 7 = 35
now put them all together...
y^2 + 7y + 5y + 35 --- combine like terms
y^2 + 12y + 35 <-- ur answer

We can expand this expression using foil method (first, then out, then in then last), multiply them together:
(y+5)(y+7)
y^2 + 7y + 5y + 35
y^2 + 12y + 35

This is already simplified and thus is also the final answer. There are also other ways but foil method is the easiest.
