When compounds that are formed from ionic bonds decompose, the products are usually IONS OF THE ORIGINAL ELEMENTS.

Ionic compounds are made up of two particles of opposite charges, which are called cations and anions. The cations are positively charged while the anions are negatively charged. When an ionic compound decomposed, for instance during electrolysis, the resulting particles are always the cations and the anions that are present in the compound.
