The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 . . . prohibited continued immigration of Chinese laborers

Why? Because mining for gold started to become more scarce and challenging as the gold rush era faded. America was predominantly Caucasian, and politicians decided to write into law the prohibition of continued immigration of Chinese laborers in order to maintain their economic advantage
