I believe that timbre is the first filter and musical decision-making that determines which style of music you might prefer and enjoy because timbre is about the qualities of a particular sound that distinguishes from others. It also has to do with the constructions of the instruments and how they are made.
*Timbre is often referred as Tone color or Tone quality.
