you can divide both 40 and 56 by 8. You'll have then (40 ÷ 8) / (56 ÷ 8)= 5/7 which is the simplest form of the fraction.

First, find the greatest common factor. That is 8.
Divide both numbers by 8.
40 ÷ 8 = 5
56 ÷ 8 = 7
The simplest for of this fraction is: 5/7
