stem is the part of the tree that conveys information about past climate. stem develops rings as it responds to different climate changes. if one were to cut a tree's stem in half,it will most likely show a set of rings if the tree has lived for many different seasons. each rings can tell the the temperature that the tree withstood and also can indicate other climate factors like the humidity and cloudiness.
