Answer: Portugal

One of the dominant European powers during the Age of Discovery was Portugal. Portuguese exploration began as early as 1279. In 1341, Portugal explored the Canary Islands, which was the first official exploratory expedition by a European state. Eventually, Portuguese exploration became more refined, and this allowed them to control vast territories in Africa, as well as Brazil in South America.

Brazil and some land in Africa were colonies of Portugal. That's why in Brazil the official language is Portuguese.
