deflation in earth science is  when erosion by loose material from flat areas of dry, uncemented sediments such as those occurring in deserts, dry lake beds, flood plains, and glacial outwash plains

Deflation is the process of erosion of dirt, rock, sand, or other sedimentary materials by the force of wind. When the wind blows through an area it creates deflation of the earths surface by moving particulate matter from one area to another.
