Why did the southern cotton industry have a hard time recovering after the Civil War?

A. Temperature changed so much that cotton couldn't be grown in the South.
B. Cotton became too expensive to process.
C. Foreign competition drove the price of cotton down.
D. Clothes were no longer made out of cotton.

D. Cotton became too expensive to process
Bull weevils began to destroy the the cotton crop and the loss was too great for cotton farmers so they moved on to farming peanuts.

didn't the cotton become less needed with the foreign cotton sellers coming up with cheaper prices?
