What challenges did africans face in building independent nations

They faced quite a few. One, was they had to struggle building their own political and economic systems without different foreign dominance. Secondly, They had to struggle for political stability. Civilians who were running the supposed independent state, were replaced by military leaders. The Europeans were a big problem too because their power carved into the African territories with artificial boundaries that didn't match their economic divisions, So national unity was very difficult. They lived with increasing tensions and also struggled with poverty. Hope I helped some :)
