Minerals must have a definite chemical composition which may differ within specified limits. According to geologists minerals must be:

>naturally occurring-meaning, people did not make it.
>inorganic- means not made by an organism
>solid-not a liquid, not a gas at standard temperature and or pressure
>definite chemical composition- all occurrences have a chemical composition which varies within a specific limited range.
>ordered internal structure-
meaning, atoms are arranged in a systematic and repeating pattern.
