A major cause of the Great Depression was the Stock Market Crash of 1929, which caused many banks to close their doors, and since people had so much of their money in banks, they would have lost their money, making people unable to pay companies and even more banks for taking out loans, so people lost their homes, businesses closed down, costing people their jobs, etc.
