The purpose of a 'no DNA' control reaction or negative-control reaction would be to know the protein level backgrounds (flourescence & endogenous biotinylated proteins) in the sample. If the gel lane has bands, it means that DNA is present.

Why do some bands in a gel paper appear brighter than others? How would you approximate the amount of DNA in a sample on a gel if you had a reference ladder in an adjacent lane of the cell containing 1.
