Cheng H 1371-1433) was a Chinese sailor and explorer. He served under the rule of emperor Yung-lo. He also was the leader of the expeditions to the South Seas at the beginning of the 15th century. For that to happen, the emperor ordered the construction of more than 1000 ships. The number of ships for each expedition varied according to necessities. For instance, in the first expedition participated 62 large ships, 250 small ships, and around 27,000 sailors.
