What are inverse operations?

Please describe the inverse operations for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Hi there!


Inverse means the opposite of something, like how the inverse of hot is cold. Let me show you what the inverses of these math terms are. They pretty much each all go together. :)


The inverse of addition is subtraction.


Why?


Because subtraction is the opposite of addition.


Subtraction is the inverse of addition.


Why?


Because addition is the opposite of subtraction.


These two things go together. :)


The inverse of multiplication is division.


Why?


Because division is the opposite of multiplication.


And finally, the inverse of division is multiplication.


Why?


Because multiplication is the opposite of division.


Pretty easy, right?
