Peter has $6000 to spend on expenses. You have to multiply 30000 time .20(the decimal form of 20%).

If Peter spends 20% of his salary on expenses, and his salary is $30,000, then all we need to do is find 20% of 30,000.

We can do this by converting 20% to a fraction or decimal. We'll do fraction because I think it is easier to see.

20% = 20/100 = 2/10 = 1/5

So we need to find 1/5th of 30,000

1/5 x 30,000 = 30,000/5 = 6,000

Therefore, Peter has $6,000 to spend on expenses.
