As many other things, the fruit jar also refers to the fact that women at that time were neglected by their husbands and that their needs were not fulfilled. For example, the women in the story see how unhappy the accused woman was by analyzing not only the broken fruit jar, but also many other broken things in the house, noticing that her husband did not care much for her.
